The Proposal

I admit that I'm not the fastest when it comes to relationships, but I think I get things done when they are right for me. Michelle and I weren't one of those couples that decided our whole marital future before we were even engaged. We had only mentioned marriage a few times and never even went ring shopping so I knew I could surprise her when I popped the question. In the three days before the big day I bought the ring and asked her Dad's permission. At the time I wasn't sure when I would ask her. I had only planned and decided to ask her on February 17th just two hours prior to asking her while talking to my sister on the phone. I did it right before Michelle and I were leaving to her parent's house for dinner. She had just called to let me know she wanted to leave earlier and moments later I sent her a text asking her to meet me at her parking stall. When she came out I told her I just wanted to go on a little adventure before dinner. We went to the park across the street from her complex (the same park where her sister Dy and Brett, our now Brother in Law, had their first kiss) and started walking through the field of snow talking about the days events. We came to a sign that read "A walk through the top ten reasons I love Michelle Marie Martin". Now at this point she began thinking that this was to make up for Valentine's Day since I was very sick that day and only had energy to make a little dinner. She had no idea what was coming. From there we went to ten different trees that each had a card with something I loved about her written on it. After the tenth one she gave me a hug and kisses and told me I was so kind and really didn't have to do this. Still she had no idea. I then told her I had one more thing I wanted to do, sing her a song. She said that when she heard that, the wheels started turning and she began to wonder. It was a very appropriate cheesy song called Question by the Old 97s. Here are the words and the song can be played on our playlist:

She woke from a dream
Her head was on fire
Why was he so nervous?

He took her to the park
She crossed her arms
And lowered her eyelids

Some day somebody's gonna ask you
A question that you should say yes to
Once in your life
Maybe tonight I've got a question for you

She'd had no idea
Started to cry
She said in a good way

He took her by the hand
Walked her back home
They took the long way

Some day somebody's gonna ask you
A question that you should say yes to
Once in your life
Maybe tonight I've got a question for you
I've got a question for you

I then got down on my knee said a few things that I don't remember and neither does she, but the important thing was I asked her to marry me and she said yes. I had wanted to surprise her and I knew she wanted something specific for her ring so I had just bought a fake ring at Wal-Mart, very nice, and used that. I was lucky that she was a size seven because that is all that they carried. The next day I took her to buy the ring of her dreams. Lucky for me I didn't send her by herself or we would have been out a few more thousand dollars.
