Utah State Fair... A First.

So last night Michelle, Nettie, Drew, and I went to the Utah State Fair. It was the first time that I had ever been to a state fair and I was excited to see what goes on during these things. Before going I had heard from several people that it could be an expensive experience and most of them with kids wouldn't go because of the cost. Well let me just say they are right. We got discounted tickets for $6 a piece, regularly $9. Luckily we found parking down a side street so we didn't have to pay the $6 parking fee. After entering the park we decided that we were hungry so we looked around at our food options.  Michelle about had a heart attack every time she saw the prices.  We almost decided to just get one treat and then go out to eat afterwords because we would get more food for our money.  I mean $6 for a funnel cake or $10 for a Navajo taco.  The best deal was the $1 hot dogs, but we thought they might make us sick.  After much deliberation Michelle and I shared a chicken strip basket and a deep fried onion, just like the bloomin onion at Outback.  There went another $16.  That was already $28 without paying for parking.  Luckily for us Drew isn't old enough to ride or want to ride any of the attractions or that would definitely empty our pockets.

After eating we took a walk around the park to see all the different things going on.  Nettie took some cool pictures of the Farris wheel in the evening light.  The weather was very nice, but I should have worn some sunglasses because it was a little bright at the start.
We had heard that there was all you can eat ice cream for $3 a person so we figured this would be the best deal of the night and we better not pass it up.  Drew was getting a little fussy so we decided we would give him a treat.  As you watch this video you will notice how angry he gets if we don't give him more.  That temper comes from his mom.  Of course after each bite we gave him Michelle would remind herself that she was doing everything she said she never would, giving our child junk food.

After the ice cream we found our favorite thing about the fair, the animals.  I think we all thought that we could have spent hours just walking up and down looking at all the farm animals, and regret not being able to come to the fair earlier in the day to have more time.  Drew just loved all of the animals.  He would just smile when we would let him pet the sheep, goats, and horses.

Here is a video of Drew petting a goat.  He just loves it and then another goat starts to eat Michelle's hoodie and gets worried.

I keep telling Michelle that we should have a farm because Drew would love it, but she is for certain that she would be the one doing all the work.  I don't know what she's talking about.  Michelle was just amazed at how they milked the cows and goats.  When she saw the dairy cows full milk sacks she was reminded of her mastitis days feeling so engorged.
After each animal that Drew touched Michelle was right there to wipe his hands with sanitizing wipes that we had with us.  She didn't want him to catch anything from them.
At the end of the night we had had a good time and had our fill of greasy foods and treats.  Drew did amazingly well for being so late and I think that is why he was so happy, he was tired and wired from all the ice cream we had given him.
We will definitely attend again while Drew is young and he is pretty much free.  Thanks Nettie for coming along and maybe more people can join us next time.
